Oh my gosh.....what a day!
Translated - Holy Family. After an early breakfast we took off for our first ride on the Metro and made it to Sagrada Familia at 10am. As soon as one gets off you turn around and there is this majestic cathedral that is quite indescribable But hopefully todays pics and vids will give you an idea. This site is the heart of Catalunya's spirituality, culture and history, which I've previously mentioned has a distinctive identity not shared by other parts of Spain. This church is a big deal. Architecturally, spiritually and as the masterpiece of Catalon's "architect of God", Antoni Gaudi.Enough empty words. As a Christian, this was a holy and awesome experience, swarms of tourists notwithstanding.
Steps down from the towers. |
The Marian chapel down underneath, it wasn't open. |
I believe this Catalon. |
Views of Barcelona from inside the towers of the Sagrada.
Yes, folks, that's the Mediterranean you are seeing. We will hang out and refresh on the beach for Rhiannon's birthday June 4. That's her bday wish. |
I saw a professional photographer take a video of the altar panning top to bottom, I immediately thought, oh I can do that too. Here you go, choppy and unedited.
LUNCH VENEZUELAN STYLE
Barcelona has all a foodie could dream of, and today our authentic fare WAS Venezuelan. Yelp is amazing. After visiting somewhere cool, like the Sagrada, we stop a oment, yelp good restaurants with one dollar sign and 5 stars. A few blocks away to avoid the touristy and pricey places, there are gems To discover.WHAT SUCKED TODAY
Real life impinged itself as I biffed it on the last step of the Metro's steep stairs right as we had arrived at the Sagrada. Some dear woman helped me up as Rhiannon was ahead of me and missed my clumsy tumble. Let's just say that my bruised wrist is in a bit of an ouchy state at moment. Could have been worse! Thank God I am built like an ox, I swear a lesser mortal (lol) might be in a cast.
I repacked everything in my suitcase and next time I will still bring HALF again as much of everything. Travelling light = sheer freedom.
STRANGER THAN STRANGE
In these high priced digs there was a -not kidding - a freaking cucaracha!
Also, electricity is very dodgy here. I am obsessed with topping my phones and tablet daily, and the doggone things just don't charge as they should. Each room apparently is set up in regions, and electricity is dead off unless some device is turned on. Or that's what we are surmising. So in order to charge our devices the tv has to remain on all night. No sound, duh, but the light is so bright now I can't sleep.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Training to Madrid in early am. Centuries of Art to see, ancient to modern, four museums. Can't wait.
Blessings!

One of these days Rhiannon will chime in. Shes's much more social than I so when I am taking some quiet time for myself and nerding out taking pics and editing them, she's out meeting people and chatting it up. We each experience travel through our unique lens. I am so glad she is enjoying every moment. Ahh, it's bliss.
Thanks for following along today. Xo
